Sugar - Why Is It So Addictive?

Fighting cravings for sweets

So I've always wondered why I crave sugar so much especially after I take a meal. I do not have one days leave without finding something with sugar in it to satisfy my need. Some days I can get a little carried away.

Why is this so?

Sweet cravings are a number of reasons. To overcome this addiction, it is important to understand why they occur.

Part of your cravings exist due to the habit. You mustfulfills this need in the past after a meal with something sweet. Then suddenly it becomes a part of your thinking. After every meal has to come dessert. The good news is that all habits are learned, so that this habit cam be forgotten as a result of practice and repetition.

Your desire will continue to exist, if you eat simple, refined carbohydrates or high sugar foods. The day, cut the sweets of the day, you take control and curb cravings. Cravings exist because we feedenable them and allow them to exist. Yes, it's an addiction, but we have to choose.

Take a look at what is happening in your body when you do make that decision. My hope is that you think twice before they will be in.

Eating simple carbohydrates causes a rise in blood sugar in these foods are quickly absorbed into the bloodstream. This in turn gives you a temporary sugar high - it feels good .... But our bodies do not like this imbalance and a number ofhormonal responses take place.

Your body produces an increased amount of the Insulin - a storage hormone. In order to facilitate this rush of insulin, glucagon - a release hormone - is diminished.

What does this hormone game mean to you? Each time you consume simple sugars and refined carbohydrates, you are doing nothing more than locking in fat.

Even worse? This cycle will continue for once your blood sugar levels hit bottom. You will Crash due to the excess insulin. Your body responds once again at this point for your energy level bottomed out, you're having trouble thinking clearly, and you end up with cravings. It will inevitably crave sweets as these foods are the fastest blood glucose levels increase, you get your break-in.

Blood sugar high / low cycle is repeated - again and again and again ...

Think of a roller coaster. This is what happens in the body every time you eat sweets.

The only way to stop the craving .....to get off the ride.

Strategies to eradicate your Sweet Tooth

1. Clean the kitchen.

Keeping sweets in the house actually sabotaging your chances of being successful. Replace the junk with supportive options. For example, fresh fruit and vegetables, nuts, string cheese, and rich in fiber crackers, etc.

2. Keep a food log.

Are they all eat 3 to 4 hours? Skipping meals causes your blood sugar to drop. Make sure each meal and snack contains theright mix of protein, fat and carbohydrates. Sometimes an addiction is caused by a lack of protein and / or fats in your meals and snacks. Simply eating an apple is not enough. Pairing the Apple cut with a handful of nuts or some cheese cubes cubes.

3. Abwarten.

Did you know that a craving lasts about 15 minutes - then it goes away. Make a list of things you can do to distract you for 15 minutes. If a need hits .... grave a bottle of water and get to that activity - you even can make aTimers. Once you hit 15 minutes ... Her desire is gone, and you have the power!

4. Are you stressed?
Some desires are for stress. Practice in other ways, to cope with stress - a walk, spiritual connections, a cozy fireplace, hot baths, ... to stimulate all of this, neurotransmitters that activate regions of the brain, the joy of eating something sweet as an incentive.

5. Break Old Habits.

One way to take control and a change is to keep a diary - you enjoylarge glass of water or a cup of hot tea - but not the way you write down what you crave ... Why you crave it .... the desire to provide a name and talk to .... find out what it is .... want to say why they are not accepted at this time .... I know that sounds corny - but can help you find some insight and control over such thoughts and beliefs - then you have the power to change it.

By simply "doing" something different after dinner, you can overcome this habit. Brushing teeth after eating, chewing on aChewing gum, drink some hot tea that has a naturally sweet taste (this is my life saver .... a licorice based tea is a wonderfully sweet flavor).

Remove yourself from the area where you normally have your sweet treat or dessert. If you usually eat while watching TV - turn on the TV channel and you are playing with a good book, with the children, listening to music, write in your journal ....

They are as much a few small lifestyle be surprisedHabits give you the control you need to overcome a lot and the nagging desire.
