First Steps With Your New Guitar

You just got home from the store to do after your research, or you are the proud recipient of a valuable gift.

Unpack the new guitar with heavy anticipation. The light shines from the highly polished surface. Your new new amplifier and cables are ready to go.

There they sit.

So now what?

First, here's what you should not do: Worry ... Panic ... Feel overwhelmed.

The bad news is: No one is born to know how to play guitar

The good news is: Muchothers have made a way for you.

The practical tips in this article will help you get started on the right foot. Think of it as a "pre" beginners.

Step 1: Buy a music theory book.

Musician's do not like to admit it, but it's hard to play well if you do not understand the underlying concepts of music. You can probably get by, possibly for a long time without knowing music theory. But you do not want to "make ends meet." You want to enjoy theInstrument. You want to understand how to play a tune to improvise, solo or as a non-replacement of a difficult chord for a lighter. It is not difficult, just a bit of music theory study per week.

My favorite book of theory is Sandy Feldstein's "Practical Theory - Complete." Although not specifically for guitar, this consolidated version of its multi-volume sets went well, with material, clear explanations and exercises required for checking your understanding (answers are in the back of theBook). Working from front to back, or use the detailed table of contents to jump directly to a specific topic. It is at bargain prices at about $ 10.

Step 2: Buy two or more guitar instruction books with DVD's.

The best books for beginners guitar lessons include a DVD. The book provides traditional written instructions, charts, a glossary and much more. A well done DVD should be demonstrations, lessons, tuning aid, as well as drum and simple accompaniment tracks are playingwith.

Fender has two very good instruction books with DVD's, one for acoustic guitar ( "Fender Presents: Getting Started on Acoustic Guitar - A Guide for Beginners") and one for electric guitar ( "Fender Presents: Getting Started on Electric Guitar -- A Guide for Beginners "). They are virtually interchangeable, so pick up only this book. Each file contains step-by-step learning guide to tuning methods, essential chords, scales, practice tips, picking and strumming techniques, basicYour equipment, and much more. The DVD contains more than three hours imagery to the book material, and backing tracks for the exercises, an animated fretboard, and visual aids for things such as finger placement, strumming, muting, and more.

Books and DVD's will not replace a good teacher, nor will you learn in-depth guitar method, but they are a great way to get started.

Step 3: Buy a couple of simple song books.

There are one million of them out there.Buy ones with songs that are familiar to you and only a few chords per song. Most include chord charts to refresh your memory. Do not be too concerned if some songs have searched the complex chords again: either to it later, to simplify the chord by showing only the first three strings, or someone how to change the key with a capo.

Here are a few recommendations: "Country Licks for Guitar" by Steve Trovato and Jerome Arnold functions lead guitar licks from the masters of theCountry Guitar: Chet Atkins, Jimmy Bryant, James Burton, Albert Lee, Scotty Moore, more ... a CD (included) contains the normal and slow playback. The "Instant Guitar Fakebook", edited by Peter Pickow, contains over 150 songs, plus photo / chord diagrams. Songs include the melody in music and rider, with the text. Have fun with "Front Porch Songs" - a collection of old-fashioned songs, stories and puns from Wayne peas collected. "The Greater Guitar White Pages" from WarnerBrothers is a huge collection of songs spanning a number of years and styles, from "Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter" by Herman's Hermits Got, Def Leppard's "Photograph" and Smash Mouth's "All Star".

Step 4: Find a way of learning from others.

I started in a classroom, where your mistakes fused to a fault anything. It is not at all intimidating.

Of course, the lessons are learned the best way, while avoiding bad habits ... provided by you in the searchLaw teachers. Ask around and you go do not worry if you are not learning and having fun.

Jamming with friends, good way to kick-start your playing. They will be encouraged to practice and they are sure to understand the occasional wrong chord or look of surprise thrown their way.

As you read this, you will be part of the online community. There are a number of guitar sites on the Internet. I commend the community-oriented http://www.guitarnoise.com for teachingand the sharing of guitarists of all levels. My own website, start playing-guitar.com is to guitar players who are geared towards complete beginners, to those who have just begun to lead to others. Both sites are updated regularly. Take a few minutes to look at it.

Step 5: practice every day.

It can be hard, especially when you first come first, but it is the only way to improve you. For at least part of the work your favorite material every day.

Step 6: MuchFun!

This is the most important part, you will enjoy your new guitar!

Mary Poppins said "a spoonful of sugar helps to go to medicine."

Snow White's seven dwarfs from their everyday work easier, advice: "Whistle While You Work."

So, playing with other ... Indeed, the volume when you can ... Get a simple drum machine to accompany ... Learn to play a very simple song and it is all worth it ... Whatever!

Expected life-long learning and fun.Well, go go!
